What is a beneficiary?


A beneficiary is a recipient of a payment. Registered beneficiaries are accounts to which you transfer money. You must register the beneficiary account details with Bank of Ireland 365 online before you can make payments or transfer money.

How do I register someone as a beneficiary?


Registering a new account to your list of beneficiaries is quick and simple.


For security reasons, the status of this new beneficiary remains inactive until you activate it by entering a 7 Digit Activation Code. This security code will be automatically posted to you once the registration of the beneficiary is completed. Once the beneficiary is activated, you can then start making payments to your new beneficiary immediately.

What is a "7-Digit Activation Code"?


A 7 Digit Activation Code is a unique One Time Activation Code, which will be issued to you automatically in the post once you have set up the new beneficiary on our 365 online and phone service. This code can only be used once to activate the specific beneficiary you have registered.

How do I activate a beneficiary?


Once you have registered your beneficiary online you will receive a 7-Digit Activation Code to activate it.
Please follow the steps below:


When you have successfully activated your beneficiary, you can then make payments to this account immediately. If you have any queries, please see our contact numbers.

Can I delete a beneficiary?


To delete a beneficiary:

Please note, once beneficiaries are deleted, the beneficiary details will not be kept on the system. If you would like to add the beneficiary again, you will need to go through the registration and activation process again.

How do I transfer money from one account to another?




Transfer money between your own accounts (within the same jurisdiction)
To transfer money between your own Bank of Ireland accounts is easy:


Transfers between your Bank of Ireland accounts will reach the destination account the same day. Transfer instructions received after 5pm on a working day, or anytime Saturday and Sunday or all bank holidays in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland or Great Britain, may not be reflected in the account until the following working day. These times may be subject to change.

Transfer money to another beneficiary
In order to make payments from your account to a 3rd party, you need to make sure that the 3rd account is registered on Bank of Ireland 365.

Transfers may take up to three (3) working days to reach the destination account,. Transfer instructions received after 5pm on a working day, or anytime Saturday and Sunday or all bank holidays in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland or Great Britain, may not be reflected in the account until the following working day. These times may be subject to change.

How much can I transfer online?


There is a transaction limit per working day of €20,000 or £20,000 for payments. This amount is inclusive of the €5,000 transaction limit per working day for international transfers.

Where payments are requested on, or scheduled for a Saturday, Sunday or Bank Holiday, these payments will be processed on the next working day and will be subject to the limit for that working day.

How do I set up a payment for a future date?


You can schedule payments for a future date on the "Money Transfer" screen.

Please note it may take up to 3 working days for this payment to reach the destination account, subject to sufficient funds being available at that time.

Once you confirm your future dated payment with your 365 PIN, this payment will be added to your list of payments pending. You can view this list by selecting "Payments Pending" under the "Payments" option on the left hand side.

If I set up a future dated payment, when will the payment be received?


The payment will leave your account on the date you have specified. It may take up to three (3) working days for this payment to reach the destination account, and is subject to sufficient funds being available at that time.

I've paid a bill, but the account balance hasn't changed.


Once you receive a confirmation screen after confirming your payment with your 365 PIN, (which says "Bank of Ireland has received your instruction to pay X from Account A to Account B"), this guarantees that your instruction will be processed.

If I pay an electricity, gas or phone bill today, when will the payment be received?


Please allow up to three (3) working days.
